The Marc Maron Experience: Live at the Laughing Skull

Last weekend I had the opportunity to see Marc Maron live at the The Laughing Skull Lounge in Atlanta. I was curious to see how Marc would handle the crowd, as they were a bit ornery the last time I attended a show at the Lounge. As it turned out both of Maron’s shows were sold out, and the crowd was obviously there to see him.
Maron has a sense of ease on stage that is comforting. He makes it easy to just sit back and enjoy the show. He had an awesome report with the audience and was able to pick his jokes as he read the mood of the room. I’d seen Maron several times before but this show was different. It was light, almost gentle and absolutely hysterical. Does anyone ever get tired of hearing about Maron’s feral cat “Lafooondaaa”?
Now, all of this does not imply that Maron was not quick witted and devilishly naughty at times. He talked about masturbation, porn, cats and masturbation, and was his usual edgy self.
There was one notable exception. Marc Maron seemed happy and carefree on stage, not burdened by the story of his divorce about which he said little.
It was a great, relaxing, entertaining show. If Marc Maron heads your way, I strongly recommend seeing him live.
