Don’t call it a comeback, Lance Krall has been here for years. OK, enough hip-hop wordplay — Krall’s Free Radio, a brilliant satire of both pop-culture and reality TV, will get another shot at life. Starting in November, Free Radio will begin airing on Comedy Central after the Colbert Report. Show creator and co-star Krall shared the info with Pop-Rock Candy Mountain on the new move and the biggest day in his life — the recent birth of his daughter.
When does “Free Radio” start airing on Comedy Central?
Nov 16th, following The Colbert Report. It will air every night for the first week, and then Wednesdays after that, unless Comedy Central changes their mind and changes everything. Either way, DVR that shit!
Are they going to show both seasons?
They are airing Season Two. Season One is tied up in several law suits at the moment. (Mostly sexual harassment stuff. No biggie.)
Are you looking forward to being on Comedy Central?
Hellz yea! I figure since my show is a comedy, and Comedy Central has “comedy” in it’s name, it’ll probably be a great fit. Now if only the network was called “Comedy Free Radio Central Lance Channel,” that would be perfect.
Are the first two seasons going to be available on DVD? Will there be lots of extras?
If we do a Season Three (why do I keep capitalizing that?), Comedy Central will most likely put out Seasons One and Two on DVD. And yes, I have a TON of extras to include. Each interview we conducted ran anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. It killed me in the edit room.
The show really seemed to hit its stride in the second season, to me. Do you agree or disagree?
Totally agree. We figured out how to marry the interviews and office scenes a lot better, and the cast really gelled. I loved the first season, but it was a lot more experimental since I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. I almost know what I am doing now, so season three should be even better.
Are you currently preparing season 3? Do you plan to keep the show in the same direction if there is a season 3?
I have a few thoughts about where season 3 can go, but I mostly work when forced to, so when Comedy Central calls me up and says that they want season 3, I’m on it!
Free Radio will have the same feel to it, but we’ll be able to get away with a lot more edgy humor being on Comedy Central. It’s just a great place for the show.
What other projects are you working on currently?
My baby. She was born Oct 15th and she is awesome. Lyla Sophia Krall. Remember that name. She will rule you all one day.
Do you get a lot of poontang?
I wipe a lot of female butt, does that count?
Do you hate being famous?
Am I famous? If so, I don’t hate it because it feels just like being not famous.
Whoopi Goldenberg coined the phrase “Rape Rape.” If something’s not rape rape, what is it?
French love.
Lyla is three weeks old but pooping on a seven week old level. She is SO advanced.
