Comic Todd Barry will be leaving his home base of NYC for tour that takes him to Texas, Toronto and the East Coast before the holidays. But first, he will open for Ricky Gervais during his three shows in NYC.

Are you looking forward to the shows with Ricky Gervais?
Yeah, I got to work with him last year. This year I’m doing three shows with him, one of them is at Carnegie Hall.
Is this your first time to play Carnegie Hall? Is this a high point of your career?
I played it in 2007 with Sarah Silverman. I don’t know if it’s the high point of my career, but it’s right up there.
Are you looking forward to going back to Austin?
I really like Austin. I’ll have a couple of free nights, so I can enjoy it more like a tourist this time. Hoping to eat some good food!
You’re on the same stage as Dan Bejar’s Destroyer at Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest. Are you a fan of the Vancouver pop movement — Destroyer, A.C. Newman, New Pornographers, etc.?
I did a show with the New Pornographers in Seattle a few years ago, and we’re now pretty friendly. And yes, I’m a big fan.
Do you like playing festivals?
I do. You can get to see a lot of different acts, and get to hang out with your friends. It’s less lonely than the usual gig.
What are your plans for early 2010?
I don’t have a lot booked right now. I’d like to go to some places I haven’t been to in a while. And maybe tour the south in the winter.
