It ain’t the life you chose but after listening to Arrica Rose’s “Pretend I’m Fur” you’ll realize you’re glad you’re in the thick of it anyway.
Arrica Rose knows the brutal beauty of the mysteries we all find in life. Her honey over gravel voice contains the longing of a bruised heart. The simplicity of the production by Dan Garcia allows Rose’s luminous melodies to shine. In “I’ll love you forever and other lies”, she tells a hard truth. You might be willing to tell a gorgeous falsehood to grasp on to the thing you want more than anything.
It’s not cynicism or sarcasm that informs her music. It’s the sweet yet iron will strength of her lyrics that portray a powerful optimism that betrays any of the shortcomings of the people who cross our paths. She chooses to see the world through a sundappled prism rather than the raindrops that batter down from time to time. This is a soundtrack that has the windows rolled down on a long summer ride.
“Pillow on the Ground” is a song you can picture hearing in one of your favorite chick flicks when the character finds the strength in herself to carry on.
