From their official bio: “Starfucker is a name that is not so much a rejection of the seriousness in the music industry, but a commitment to the playful spirit of their music; an understanding between three multi-instrumentalists in an ethereal galaxy of drums, drum machines, keyboards, guitars, turntables, and a live performance powerful enough to transcend the guilt of actually having fun at a live show.

The Rosewood Thieves is a folk/soul band based out of New York and consists of Erick (vocals, guitar), Paul (guitar), Mackenzie (organ), Jon (bass), and Mark (drums). They first won my heart with their song Untitled #1, won it again with their song Diamond Ring, and then won it for the third time when I learned that they recorded their most recent EP, Lonesome, while they were waiting out a snow storm and had nothing better to do than light candles and sing songs in the basement.

The Rosewood Thieves just completed their first full-length album, Rise & Shine, and you can bet your biscuits that when I interviewed Erick, the first question I asked was how their amazing experience of recording the Lonesome EP affected the making of Rise & Shine. “Lonesome was the EP that really brought us together as a band. It was a the first time that we figured out how easy it was for us to produce music together and how skilled everyone is beyond playing their own instruments. Spending lots of time in close quarters, not seeing anyone else besides each other, and being able to get Lonesome out of it made recording Rise & Shine very simple. We knew that we had the capability to record whatever we could possibly imagine,” Erick said.

Rise & Shine actually started as just another EP. The band really liked the idea of just making EP’s with different themes and styles because it was less stressful than the process of waiting for enough of the right songs to come together to make a proper album. But this time around, the band was in for a surprise. “We recorded seven songs, assuming one would not be used, and then they all came out good. So, we booked more studio time and kept going,” Erick explained.

Interesting fact: Erick’s favorite holiday is Halloween. “It’s the most mysterious. We even wrote a song about it. I like the treats, and I like to trick.”

Somehow, in the midst of doing their very first tour and recording Rise & Shine, they managed to find time to release another EP, which is a collection of Solomon Burke songs. “He is my favorite soul singer, the king of rock and soul actually, and when he plays live, he sits on a throne. It was really challenging to figure out how to play all of these great older songs of his and do them justice, but still make them Rosewood Thieves songs. We had a lot of fun figuring out what all the musicians on those records were doing,” Erick revealed.

Through their first tour, the band learned how much they love touring and are currently playing a different show almost every night from coast to coast. So, eat some candy corn, put on your dancing shoes, and go check this band out before they blow up and you have to buy tickets to their shows on Ebay for $300 a piece.

From their official bio:

Wild Sweet Orange’s Canvasback Music debut, WE HAVE CAUSE TO BE UNEASY, out July 29, is a work of exquisite power, its songs propelled by edgy emotion and a cathartic yearning for connection. Tracks such as “Ten Dead Dogs” and “Sour Milk” find the Birmingham, Alabama-based rock outfit honing an intimate and individualistic sound that veers unrestrained from aching intimacy to a turbulent, seething intensity. For singer and songwriter Preston Lovinggood, the album’s provocative title serves as both an ideal statement of intent as well as a strong assertion of identity.

From his official bio:

An ability to play a large crop of instruments with equal amounts of precision and passion allows Golden Bloom frontman, Shawn Fogel, to take the wheel in his own band while holding on to his solo roots. Blossoming into an artist who is as comfortable solo as he is with a band, he now calls seasoned veterans such as Michael Azerrad (Come as You Are: The Story of Nirvana, Our Band Could Be Your Life) his band mates when calling in for back-up.
