• Band Of Horses: I attend their singing at the Hi-Tone in Memphis last night. If you like melodic, pretty and loud, then you will love Band Of Horses—plus they did an amazing cover of Chicago’s Feeling Stronger. Check them out here.
  
• Lost: It’s back! First up, an hour-long recap of Season Three. Then, the season premiere on ABC. It’s the Islanders vs. The Others! Or in classical terms, it’s man versus man versus nature versus “What in the hell is going on here?”. For a great recap of the Season Three finale, go here.
• The GOP California Debate: Once again, Mitt Romney emits cool confidence. However, the media seems to have decided it will be Clinton vs McCain, which is lose-lose for everyone. John McCain?! Really?!
• Smallville: New episode tonight on the CW at seven. James Marsters, formally known as Spike on Buffy, returns as Braniac. My inner-geek says whoo-hoo!
• Writer’s Strike: Rumor has it that it could be ending soon. As long as we get new episodes of The Office.…
• Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings: Wow! Pow! Bam! Hear Janet Jackson’s What Have You Done For Me Lately like it was recorded in 1965 by a Memphis house band.
• SAD: Yep, got that seasonal affective disorder something bad this year. I like to call it the Gray Skies Blues.
• The Carpenters: I love AM Radio music more than just about anything and nothing makes me smile and keeps the SAD in check like The Carpenters.
• American Idol (Wednesday): Although I missed it for reasons already explained, my sister told me that all I really missed was what she referred to as a “Singing Skunk.”

Sarah Whitaker: Former wrestler…sings like Minnie Mouse. She’s not going to Hollywood. Ryan just inquired about her being rejected. Now, Ryan is a judge and Paula is the greeter.

Samantha Sidley: She’s doing a Norah Jones impersonation–too breathy. Simon says? Three yeses, no wait, four yeses–Ryan said yes, too.

Elizabeth Erkert: Singing Gladys Knight’s I Heard it Through the Grapevine. Going to So-Cal! (I thought she was really good)

Denise Jackson: Shown briefly but going to Hollywood.

Michael Sanflippo: Again, shown briefly. Yep, he’s heading to Hollywood.

Well, the talking picture box was blacked-out for the first 20 minutes of the show, so I’m not certain what I missed. I assume, going by the judges reactions, that I missed nothing but a bunch of clownin’ and shinin-ass.

Angelica Puente: Man, I wish that people would quit singing Celine Dion’s Power of Love. Boring. “I think with a bit of practice you could actually be good,” stated Simon. She is going to Hollywood.

David Cook: Big-bossy emo singing. I think that he’s terrible , but the rest of the kids loved him. Onward to Hollywood, Emo Rock Dude. You know who should sing Bon Jovi songs? Ol’ Bon Jovi, that’s who.

Johnny (Simon just called Paula a “disgusting little pig” for hiccupping) Escamilla: Singing Shout by The Isley Brothers in a gold lame jacket. Yep, it’s ass-makin’ time. “In every single way, that is everything that I hate,” said Simon.

Again, WTVA comes out on top with a live-from-Washington top story and a Sen. Wicker AM exclusive. Although I loathe NBC corespondent David Gregory, the Peacock provided the best national coverage.
• The Kennedy Endorsement of Sen. Barrack Obama: With Teddy K. in his corner, it could be the end of the road for the Clintons.
• Atlanta: Where to go in the South if you want to see The Cure, Radiohead, R.E.M. (with Modest Mouse), Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen. Remember when tours came to Memphis and Birmingham?
• The King Of Kong: Fistful of Quarters drops on DVD: Finally, a movie for nerds by nerds–a documentary about gamers trying to break the world records of games such as PAC Man and Donkey Kong. Acne and bad breath not included. For more DVDs dropping today, go here 
• Breaking Bad on AMC: The middle aged meth maker and chemistry teacher as anti-hero/protagonist. Definitely not the good old crystal meth show your mom grew up watching.
• LOST comes back in two days: Oh, how I’ve missed Kate and Jack and Sawyer and Kate and Claire and Kate. On a sad note, Oceanic Airlines has closed its doors.

• The GOP Florida Debate: Finally, I’m excited about the election again. Mitt Romney was excellent. Sen. Thad Cochran is supporting him and so am I. To win the South, should he get the nomination, he’s going to need a strong, Christian Southerner on the VP ticket. I would like to see Fred Thompson on the ticket with him, but Mike Huckabee would also work. Without a win in Florida, it could be the end of the road for Rudy Giuliani. Expect some finger-wagging from a red-faced, angry Bill Clinton sometime this weekend, as well as personal attacks on Romney.
• Friday Night Lights: The best show on television is all new tonight. Forget what you think you know about this show and give it a try.
• Ole Miss vs MSU: Big time SEC basketball returns to the Hump in Starkville on Saturday.
• No Country For Old Men; Juno: Still playing in Tupelo. See them before they are gone. Or, you could see Untraceable, but Peter Travers warns against it.
• Iron Man is going to be in the new Hulk movie: And since I’m never going on another date because of my inner and outer geek, here’s what William Hurt says about the movie.
• Kay Bain’s Saturday Morning Show: So what if it’s on at six AM on Saturdays—that’s what DVRs are for. I mean, what if Mrs. Erma Billings of Water Valley has her 85th birthday coming up and you didn’t know about it? How would you feel? And if you don’t get excited when Ace Cannon comes on and plays the saxophone, well you probably don’t have a heart. This is one morning show that is completely void of irony and sarcasm–take that, The View!
• My Friend Johnny Weaver: Former Tupelo resident and UCA post-grad film student Johnny Weaver is going to be in a movie directed by Guy Maddin. The film, Death of the Reel, was partially filmed in Conway, Arkansas. This means that Johnny will soon be getting IMDB credits. Johnny will be screening his own film, Laser Love, at the Magnolia Film Festival in February. Death of the Reel is scheduled to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival later this year. Tupelo’s Daniel Lee will be showing his film, Memphis Zombies Attack: The Documentary, the following night at the Mag Film Fest.
